Ermengarde: A student at the school, kind to Sara. Must be able to sing and act well. Vocal range: B3-E5; mezzo soprano; good rhythm; confidence singing harmonies
Lottie: A younger student at the school, kind to Sara and full of life. Vocal range: B3-E5; mezzo soprano; good rhythm; confidence singing harmonies
Alice: A student at Miss Minchen’s seminary. Age 8 to 12. Vocal range: B3-E5; mezzo soprano; good rhythm; confidence singing harmonies
Jessie: A student at Miss Minchen’s seminary. Age 8 to 12. Vocal range: B3-E5; mezzo soprano; good rhythm; confidence singing harmonies
Lavinia: A young antagonist to Sara. Lavinia is one of the students at Miss Minchen’s seminary, privileged and snooty. Vocal range: B3-E5; mezzo soprano; good rhythm; confidence singing harmonies
Miss Amelia: Miss Minchen’s younger and more amiable sister. A young English lady, kind to the students and the staff while helping to run the school. Vocal range: C4-C5; alto
Miss Minchin: One of the antagonists of our story. A lady, prim and proper, Miss Minchen is in command of her seminary school for girls. She must be able to sing and act well, holding the audience’s attention. Vocal range: C4-E5; mezzo soprano
Becky: A young scullery maid, Sara’s confidant, poor as a church mouse and lucky to be working in the services of Miss Minchen. Vocal range: D4-D5; confidence singing harmonies; mezzo soprano
Mr. Barrow: A proper English gentleman, a barrister and executor for Captain Crewe. Must be able to sing and act well. Vocal range: C3-C4; Baritone
Cook: An older Englishwoman, solid and gruff, she helps keep the female house staff in line. Must be able to sing and act well. Vocal range: C4-E5; mezzo soprano
Sara Crewe: The heroine of our story. In the story Sara is portrayed as between 8 and 12 years of age. She is smart, curious, courageous, and alone. She lost her mother and had to live apart from her father at a girl’s seminary in London. Vocal range: B3-F5, solid control of head & chest voice transition; confidence singing harmonies; good diction & rhythm; mezzo soprano
Mrs. Carmichael:An elegant Englishwoman and Mr. Carmichael’s wife. Vocal range: E4-D5; alto
Ram Dass: An East Indian man servant of Mr. Carrisford. Strong and somewhat mysterious to the children at Miss Minchen’s seminary. Convincing acting and good singing a must. Vocal range: E flat3-E flat4; Bari/Tenor
Perkins: Mr. Carrisford’s butler. A proper English butler, in charge of managing the house of Carrisford. Must be able to sing and act well. Vocal range: Eflat3-D4; Baritone
Mr. Carrisford: A well to do, older Englishman, and kind neighbor of Miss Minchen
Mr. Carmichael: A proper English gentleman, and executive agent for the well to do Mr. Carrisford. Must be able to sing and act well
Captain Crewe: Sara’s father, a wealthy retired military man. He loves his daughter deeply but has to part from her for some time. Must be able to sing well and present a commanding figure of a military officer. Vocal range: D3-D4; Baritone
